Give them credit for the thing nobody else does
Profound is the only vendor in this category we can find that publishes its sampling methodology with evidence. They ran a 14-day A/B test of one run per prompt per day against ten runs, across roughly 5.78 million runs, and reported that once-daily lands within about two percentage points of the 10× reading for visibility — and around 0.3 points for citation share.
We build our own reports around repeated sampling, so that result cuts against us and we would rather say so than let you find it later. Across a large prompt portfolio, run-to-run noise mostly cancels, and daily sampling is a reasonable estimate.
The caveat we would add is about scope, not honesty: that finding is about aggregates over thousands of prompts. It says nothing about whether a single row — one question, asked once — is a stable answer, and single rows are what people read.
What Profound is for
It is enterprise-first and unembarrassed about it: they cite 700+ enterprise brands and more than 10% of the Fortune 500. Beyond visibility tracking they sell prompt-volume estimates, agent and crawler analytics for your own site, shopping analysis and a conversation explorer.
The entry tier tracks ChatGPT only, public plan cards are annual-billed, and Enterprise is demo-gated. That shape tells you who it is built for.
If you are a large brand with a team to act on this data, it is the most complete product in the category. We are not going to argue otherwise.
When the free check is the right first move
If you have never measured this at all, spending four figures to discover you are already well covered is a poor trade. Run a free check first — ours, Semrush's, or Ahrefs' — and find out whether there is a problem.
Our report will tell you which questions were asked, what each engine answered, whether you were named, whether your domain was cited, and how many runs sit behind each number. That is enough to decide whether the problem is big enough to buy a tool for.

Common questions
Does Profound have a free tier?
No free tier. Their entry plan is paid and tracks ChatGPT only; a short trial has been reported on the middle tier. Enterprise requires a demo.
Is Profound's once-a-day sampling a problem?
Not at portfolio scale — they have published data showing it tracks a 10x reading closely. It matters when you are looking at an individual prompt, or a small prompt set, where a single run cannot separate a stable absence from an unlucky one.
What can't a free check tell me?
Whether anything changed. History, scheduled re-runs, alerting and competitor tracking over time are what paid tools are for, and a one-off audit is a photograph rather than a trend.
